It is with great honor and excitement that Executive Director/ Producer
John Garcia and "The Column" Theatre Awards Board announces Broadway &
Film star Anthony Rapp as our special guest star for the 7th Annual "The
Column" Theatre Awards Gala. This year's gala will be held Sunday
February 26th, 2006 at the Courtyard Theater in Plano, Texas.

on, of Mark Cohen in Jonathan Larson's Tony Award winning rock opera, RENT.
Now a critically acclaimed motion picture from director Chris Columbus, the
musical involves a group of Bohemians in the East Village of New York City
struggling with life, love, and AIDS, and the impacts they have on America.

You: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and the Musical RENT which will published by

In 2000, Anthony embarked on his music career with the release of his
debut alternapop album, Look Around. He has played gigs in clubs & colleges
around the country. In addition, Rapp has traveled extensively around the
country speaking with college and high school students about gay issues and
conducting master classes with acting students.
Currently, Mr. Rapp is in production on two independent films. He will
be playing himself in "Danny Roane: First Time Director"; a comedy -
mockumentary starring & directed by Andy Dick, about an out-of-work, scandal
plagued actor making his first film in an effort to resuscitate his career.
His next feature, "Scaring the Fish", directed by Todd Miller, is a tense,
three-character drama about coworkers on a fishing trip at a remote
lakeside. In addition, Mr. Rapp can be seen in "Winter Passing", written and
directed by his brother, Adam Rapp.
Additional film credits include "Adventures in Babysitting" (also
directed by Chris Columbus), "School Ties", "Dazed and Confused", "Six
Degrees of Separation", "Man of the Century", "David Searching", "Road
Trip", & "A Beautiful Mind" (SAG Award nomination for Ensemble).
Anthony Rapp's Broadway credits include the recent revival of "You're a
Good Man, Charlie Brown" and John Guare's "Six Degrees of Separation". He
made his Broadway debut in Precious Sons with Judith Ivey and Ed Harris, for
which he received an Outer Critics Circle award and a Drama Desk nomination.
Rapp is proud to support and continue to help raise funds for Broadway
Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Friends in Deed. Rapp resides in New York City.
The brainchild and creation of "The Column" is executive producer John
Garcia. "The Column" Theatre Awards (TCTA) have, over the past seven years,
raised $6,000.00 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA). "The
Column" Theatre Awards are the only theatrical awards program in Texas that
hold an annual event where 100% of the proceeds from the ticket sales (after
operating expenses) go directly to BC/EFA. TCTA is very proud to be listed
in the "Angel" Campaign with BC/EFA.
TCTA honors and celebrates excellence in theater within the Dallas/ Fort
Worth metroplex. The organization hands out awards in both the Equity and
Non-Equity categories with both the nominations and winners chosen by the
subscribers of "THE COLUMN".
Garcia stated, "I cannot even to begin to express how thrilled and
honored we are that Mr. Rapp has accepted our invitation to appear at our
gala. I saw the original Broadway cast of RENT at the Nederlander Theater in
June 1996, the weekend after they won the Tony for Best Musical," Garcia
said. "After the show, I met and talked with all the performers-including
Anthony. Now fast forward almost ten years later, in a strange twist of
fate, I was able to interview Anthony when he was in Dallas with the
national tour of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS." (Rapp portrayed Seymour).
"At that interview I expressed my deep compassion for his work and of
that of the original cast and production of RENT. It spoke to me on many
levels, both professionally and personally. Needless to say, having him
attend our gala is phenomenal! There are innumerable RENT and Anthony Rapp
fans here in the metroplex who are going to be jumping for joy at this
news!" Garcia said.
"I had only three main goals when I created 'The Column' Theatre
Awards," replied Garcia. "The first was to donate as much money as possible
to BC/EFA. The second was to unite the entire Dallas/Fort Worth theatrical
community for one special evening. And the third was to award those
deserving individuals and productions that presented outstanding theater
each year."
Garcia continued, "I have an extremely dedicated, hard-working Advisory
Board that goes beyond the call of duty each year to make the gala a
success. They are the backbone of this event and TCTA wouldn't have the
success it does today without their involvement."
There will be a special, VIP reception with Mr. Rapp before the awards
ceremony at this year's gala. Details regarding the VIP reception and
tickets prices for both will be announced in "The Column" at a later date.
