The Board of Directors and the Executive Director/Producer of THE
COLUMN Theatre Awards are very honored in announcing that Motion
Picture/Stage/Television star Christian Campbell will be a guest
star at the 8th Annual Column Awards Gala on Monday February 26th,
2007.
Executive Director/Producer John Garcia stated, "I interviewed
Christian when he was headlining the national tour of TICK TICK BOOM
that came through Dallas in 2003. Since then he and I have stayed in
contact and become good friends. When we presented him our offer to
be one of our guest stars, I was filled with great excitement and
joy that he accepted. Christian's talent is both blinding and
intense. He is able to flow easily through all genres of
entertainment: film, TV, stage - giving each role depth, purpose,
and truth. It is very rare in the art of acting to see actors who
can easily segue through the various categories of entertainment,
but Christian does. He's just a phenomenal actor."
Garcia added, "This will be such an exciting night to remember! We
have three amazing, dazzling, and talented stars coming to Dallas to
attend our Gala."
From New York City, Mr. Campbell stated, "When I first visited
Dallas back in 2003 to perform TICK TICK BOOM, I was impressed with
the vitality, and sophistication of the Dallas theatre community and
managed to make some great contacts and friends that I have kept in
touch with since. I'm looking forward to being back to visit friends
and help honor this year's crop of shows and performers."
Campbell will be performing a number from TICK TICK BOOM along with
two of Dallas's best thespians. Joining him in the number will be
well known cabaret performer/actor Gary Floyd and critically
acclaimed actress/singer Patty Breckenridge. The number will be
musically directed by another major, highly respected talent, Lee
Harris. Mr. Harris will also serve as the Resident Musical Director
for the Gala.
"I wanted Christian to be surrounded by some of the finest talent we
have in our area talent pool, and Gary and Patty were the first two
names that popped into my mind. When I asked both of them if they
would like to sing with Campbell, both immediately said yes. They
are very excited and honored to be performing with Campbell," Garcia
said.
Christian Campbell most recently starred as Peter Webster, the
eldest son to Reverend Daniel Webster and his wife Judith, in NBC's
series The Book of Daniel.
Actor, director, singer and producer Christian Campbell recently
starred in Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, a campy musical
takeoff on the 1930's drug scare movie. The movie earned three Emmy
nominations, winning for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for "Mary
Jane/Mary Jane," which was performed by Campbell and Kristen Bell
(from UPN's Veronica Mars). In 1999, Campbell created the role of
Jimmy in the stage version of the same production, which earned him
the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Lead
Performance. The movie made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival
in 2005 before premiering on Showtime.
In addition, Campbell completed a run on the daytime drama All My
Children, playing Bobby Warner. That same year he starred in the
short musical film Pretty Dead Girl, which premiered at the 2004
Sundance Film Festival and has played to numerous festivals around
the world. Previously, to critical acclaim, Campbell portrayed
Rent's tragically-fated writer, Jonathan Larson, in the national
tour of the rock musical tick... tick... BOOM!Campbell later
reprised his role in the musical, making his London stage debut in
the summer of 2005.
Campbell is often recognized for his role as Gabe in the feature
film comedy Trick, co-starring Tori Spelling and J. P. Pitoc. He
also starred opposite Stockard Channing in The Piano Man's Daughter,
a film, which Whoopi Goldberg served as executive producer. Other
film credits include Thank You Good Night, Cold Hearts, Next Time,
Family Conversation and Too Smooth, which Campbell co-produced and
co-starred alongside his younger sister, Neve Campbell.
In 2000, Campbell worked on Darren Starr's The $treet and the
animated series Max Steel, for which he provided the title character
voice. He has also been seen in Seventh Heaven, Aaron Spelling's
Malibu Shores, and several made-for-TV movies including Picture
Perfect, City Boy, Cruel Justice, I've Been Waiting For You and
Seduced By Madness for NBC. Back home in his native Canada,
Campbell is known for his work on the coming-of-age drama series
Degrassi High.
His passion for live theatre led Campbell to acquire the Lexington
Theatre in Hollywood in 1996 and then form its resident theatre
company, Blue Sphere Alliance, along with his partners Anthony
Barnao and Russell Friedenberg. Of the many original plays produced
at the theatre, Campbell is most proud of Nagasaki Dust, in which he
performed the lead role, and Reach, where he directed leading man
Matthew Lillard. Before coming to the United States, Campbell's
past theatre experience includes a European tour of Lope de Vega's
classic Spanish drama Der Ritter Von Mirakel and a role in the
long-running German production of A Clockwork Orange. Campbell
currently resides in New York City.
