(Dallas, Texas) Executive Director/Producer John Garcia announced that the annual Column Theatre Awards will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2006, at the Courtyard Theater in Plano, Texas. The awards honor excellence in theater arts within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and surrounding counties. This is the seventh year for the awards gala which has raised more than $6,000 benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the nation’s leading industry-based HIV/AIDS fund-raising and grand-making organization. Mr. Garcia is editor and founder of The Column, a daily entertainment email that began locally in 1998 with a base distribution to 40 close friends. Over the years Column subscribership has grown to more than 6,000 and has expanded across the country and abroad. After establishing The Column, and at the urging of subscribers, Garcia decided to broaden his connections and bring equity and non-equity theater companies together. The result was The Column Theatre Awards, a one-night event created to celebrate and unite the D/FW theatrical community. The February awards event will honor productions produced between November 2004 and November 30, 2005. Unlike other Metroplex theater awards, The Column Awards are voted on by its subscribers on the Internet. Garcia says, “This year we have plans for a bigger, more glitzy spectacle than ever before! We’ve got a wonderful advisory board that has some exciting, new, and wonderful surprises in store for this year’s gala! The Column Awards will be held on Friday, February 25, 2006, at 7 p.m. at the Courtyard Theater, 1509 H Avenue in Plano. A cocktail reception with will be held in the lobby from 5:30- 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person. Advance reservations are recommended as seating is limited.
